A decade of service to Northview Christian Academy

Soryna Fourie and Candice Janse van Rensburg are the two longest-serving teachers at Northview Christian Academy.

POLOKWANE – At Northview Christian Academy (NCA) there are two teachers who have been working at the school for 10 years thus making Soryna Fourie and Candice Janse van Rensburg the two longest-serving teachers.

Soryna and Candice started their careers directly after school, just in different years.

“I completed school at Hoërskool Hans Strydom and moved to Polokwane. A friend visited my dad and said I should apply at Little Blessings Preschool. I wanted to work with children since a very young age and seized the opportunity in December of my Gr 12 year,” says Soryna.

Little Blessings is the feeder school of NCA. Here Soryna teaches natural sciences to Gr 4-5, Bible to Gr 6 and life orientation to Gr 7 learners.

Candice started at NCA where she is now head of department for the foundation phase. She also teaches Afrikaans to the Afrikaans and English Gr 2 classes.

“I love to create opportunities for learners to grow. It comes naturally to me and I enjoy it. I also love to see how the children grow during the year.”

Soryna agrees to the fact that seeing the children grow is a positive reinforcement. “I only see the learners from Gr 4-7 but it amazes me to see how they grow and develop and even their personality changes over the years.

“I enjoy helping a child who struggles with a subject and see him succeed in the end. In the beginning of my career I struggled with my admin, but after 10 years, I am organised and nothing gets me down.”

Both teachers love nature and their families.

Soryna spends every free minute she has on the farm where they plant potatoes and farm with cattle and sheep. Candice has a vegetable garden where she grows her own veggies, and relaxes with her fingers in the ground.

Candice loves fishing and spending time with her dogs, Gracie and Fifi, and her family. To spend quality time with their families are in both teachers’ planning for the December holiday.
