Municipalities urged to employ graduates from Fhulufhelo Special School

Fifty one graduates from the Fhulufhelo Special School received their certificates in hospitality, plumbing, welding and arts and craft.

LIMPOPO – The provincial education director of inclusive education and public schools, Daniel Mabote urged municipalities around the Vhembe district through their special programmes to employ graduates from Fhulufhelo Special School.

“The graduates received certificates and we want them to be employed by various municipalities in their special programme unit. This is a culmination of your hard work, your determination and perseverance that demonstrated that learners with disabilities can make it, despite living with special needs,” said Mabote.

He said learners with special needs have to be congratulated as they were assessed and tested in accordance with their own merits and demerits, potential and talent in various fields of the vocational curriculum.

Mabote was speaking on November 24 in Nandoni River View during the first graduation ceremony for Fhulufhelo Special School where 51 graduates received their certificates in hospitality, plumbing, welding and arts and craft.

He said that with these learners showing they can make it, it would be inappropriate to continue referring to these learners as learners with disabilities.

Graduates were also given starter kits, which includes tools to be used when they are starting up with their self-creating jobs, aiming in fighting poverty and unemployment hindering learners with special needs.

The principal of Fhulufhelo, William Ramaano said education is a societal responsibility. He urged stakeholders to help with the internship placement of graduates and further employ them.

According to Ramaano, his special school has already employed 20 learners who graduated from the school to work and assist in various sectors.

He said the school and staff members trained learners with workable skills that will help them start up with their skills related jobs including plumbing, welding, arts and craft.
