Bet-Shalom’s drummies qualifies for the plate in the quarter finals

Head pastor Lizelle Calitz applauded the drum majorette coaches and the team for their hard work and dedication to the sport.

POLOKWANE – Bet-Shalom Christian School congratulated their drum majorettes who qualified for the nationals for the first time in the history of the school.

After hard work the girls performed well at the South Africa Majorette and Cheerleading Association (Samca) championships at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on October 3-8.

They obtained fifth place in the category of non-prop as well as sixth place in the flag overall category.

The team also qualified for the plate in the quarter finals.

Coach Yolandie Viljoen said that drummies have lifelong skills which are not just all about the physical benefits that the sport offers, but it also helps girls grow emotionally, mentally and socially.

“A few of the many benefits that the girls enjoy when participating in drummies is regular exercise, as they practise as a team, and they don’t even realise that they’re exercising because they’ll be having lots of fun. With this sport they build stamina and endurance and they maintain healthy bodies. Drummies also build stronger friendships because of the social aspect of team sports, and they also learn how to handle themselves better in social situations,” she said.

Yolandie further added that the girls develop self-confidence, learn more about themselves and their abilities.

“Simple gestures like a high-five, pat on the back, thumbs-up or even a nod of approval can help build confidence in girls,” she said.

Head pastor Lizelle Calitz thanked the drum majorette coaches Yolandie, Madelein Potgieter, Lenè Pretorius and Tanya Wannenburg for training the girls and encouraging them to reach their full potential.
