Tleane granted bail due to ‘missing docket’

Laurence Tleane made his first appearance in court after he allegedly hit Tumi Seshoene with his car and fatally wounding her.

POLOKWANE – On Monday (September 26) Laurence Tleane made his first appearance at Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that Tleane hit Tumi Seshoene with his car at Lesedi Park outside of Polokwane in December 2021.

On Monday during the bail proceedings the matter was, however, provisionally withdrawn as the docket could not be found on the court rolls.

Tleane was subsequently granted bail of R1 000 by the Magistrate’s Court on his first appearance.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) recently confirmed the murder docket is in fact not lost, as it was initially stated.

NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi Dzhangi confirmed that Tleane appeared at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court for the murder, and that the docket is now in the office of the Director of Prosecuiton Prosections (DPP) for decision.

The prosecutor and the defence agreed on a further postponement, but the presiding officer refused a postponement and withdrew the matter.

The case is expected to be reinstated as soon a the DPP makes a final decision.
