Khomotso’s app-mazing way to create jobs

B Tap creator Khomotso Sethoga said her app accommodates everyone and also gives recognition and a platform to informal traders.

POLOKWANE – “There is no other delivery app such as B Tap.”

These are the words of the delivery application’s developer, Khomotso Sethoga, who says B Tap works like most other delivery applications, but that the app’s functionality is a big advantage.

According to her, the Google certified app is user-friendly and aims to reach Africans by conveniently delivering African produce and home essentials to their doorstep. She said the app was launched in 2020 during lockdown and that it is an African e-commerce platform.

“The app assists local merchants such as supermarkets, restaurants and pharmacies as we take care of their deliveries. I saw there was a gap in the market as these shop owners don’t have the opportunity to sell online. I then decided to develop this app to assist those merchants and their customers,” said Sethoga.

She said she was motivated to develop the app because she wanted to create employment opportunities.

“As an entrepreneur, I decided to do something that can create jobs for people. Everything is moving online due to the Covid-19 pandemic and I decided to follow suit and become relevant with what’s going on,” she said.

Sethoga explained that more than 500 Android users have downloaded the app.

“The idea of the app is to unite all Africans with food and products. Here is a platform for all those informal traders and the reception we have received is quite impeccable,” she explained.

Sethoga said existing delivery applications focus too much on well-established retailers.

“I decided to create an app that will accommodate everyone. Informal traders were not recognised on these existing delivery apps and that is where I decided to step in. We have partnered with Varsity Vibe SA and university students who are dependant on NSFAS receive a 15% discount on products on the app,” she concluded.
