Boxing night packs a local punch in honour of Peter Mokaba

Vhembe boxer Makondo will face Congolese Christian Ndombasy in the main bought for the World Boxing Federation international title fight.

POLOKWANE – Mama Rocks Promotions launched the Peter Mokaba International Boxing Night at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World on May 26.

The launch was held in celebration of the late social activist and youth leader in the 90s, Peter Mokaba,

Modipadi Kgasago, the founder of Mama Rocks Boxing Promotions, revealed that female boxers would compete in the international event which is scheduled for June 26.

Limpopo boxer Rollen Muleba will face Zimbabwe’s Lilian Molala in a female cruiserweight bout over four rounds.

Mapula Mokaba is excited for the international boxing night in commemoration of her late brother, Peter Mokaba.

Kgasago hopes the platform will encourage other females to take up boxing to deal with societal issues they may face in their daily lives.

Polokwane Mayor John Mpe expressed words of gratitude and support for the initiative and encouraged the public to attend in their numbers to support this event.

“It is a gratifying experience that Polokwane has been chosen to host this magnificent event which has the potential to motivate our children to yearn for more and become achievers and possibly break the chains of poverty.”

Khensahosi Makondo and Lusanda Komanisi, two boxers who attended the launch, expressed their confidence in their abilities to defend their titles against their opponents.

Komanisi will fight against Tanzanian Adam Lazaro in the supporting main bout for the World Boxing Association Pan Africa title.

Tickets will be sold on Computicket and at Meropa at R150 per person and VIP tickets at R350 per person.
