Sweet Disasters Dance Crew take top honours at festival

The festival was inspired by a lack of platforms and support for dancers in the province, as many residents are of the opinion that Limpopo doesn't have a platform where dancers can showcase their talents.

POLOKWANE – The best of the best Limpopo dancers battled it out during the Dance Tribe Festival 2022 Championship recenlty.

This year marked the fourth annual Dance Tribe Festival which was hosted at the Polokwane Library Gardens Auditorium.

The festival is a family-fun fair hosted in Polokwane to celebrate and embrace the various types of street dance such as pantsula, gumboots, hip hop, bujwa and house, as well as to develop the arts industry and dance as a career.

It was hosted by Mega Artists Media and was adjudicated by Monnica Mathebe, William Kgatle and Danny Modiba and featured performance highlights and an awards ceremony.

The dance acts that qualified at the auditions performed at the main show and a total of 10 performing artist were part of the dance festival.

The festival was inspired by a lack of platforms and support for dancers in the province, as many residents are of the opinion that Limpopo doesn’t have a platform where dancers can showcase their talents and was not only about winning, but also focuses on nurturing the dancers to be more competitive and exposing them to bigger audiences and opportunities.

The festival’s champions in the dance group category were Sweet Disasters Dance Crew which consists of Elias Matla, Jack Sekokotla and Prince Pilusa from Ga-Mothapo.

They took home the title trophy and R3 000 cash. The first runners-up in this category was Peace Makers who walked away with R2 000 cash and a trophy and the second runners-up were the Vintage Gurus, who took home a trophy and R1 000. The winner in the solo category was ZayTheGreat, who won R1 000.
