POLOKWANE – The department ensured that the Limpopo Swimming and Action Aquatics’ swimmers were well equipped with resources at the recent South African Schools Swimming Championship held at Pretoria in March. The team, which was made up of 42 swimmers, bagged a total of 28 medals of which five were gold medals, eight silver and 15 bronze at the event.

Action Aquatics financial manager Ildemari Potgieter said they are grateful to the department and that the swimmers could enjoy the championship without any hindrances.

“From Action Aquatics Club and Limpopo Swimming we would like to thank the government for spoiling our kids with full attire, transport, food and support during the gala.We just want to say thank you to the department for looking after our athletes.

They provided swimming towels, costumes, T-shirts, swimming caps, hoodies and bags. They also paid for transport and accommodation.”

Lucky Tshilimandila, spokesperson for the Department of Sport, said it is their responsibility as the department to ensure all the athletes are catered for.

“Most of the swimmers in the province are not professional and we as the department have the responsibility to develop and nurture the talent in all sporting codes. It is also our duty to focus on all sporting areas. We want to see the swimmers progress and the province produce another Olympic swimmer.”
