Duncan’s ‘Custard’ is a sweet ride

Custard, owned by Duncan Southon, a member of Team Stress in Westenburg obtained second position in the country in the Caddy MK 1 category at the recent Vdub Camp Fest.

POLOKWANE – Custard won a sweet second place at the recent Vdub Camp Fest 2022.

Vdub Camp Fest is the biggest South African annual event where people from across the country showcase their vehicles that have been pimped out to be judged by a panel.

Custard, owned by Duncan Southon, a member of Team Stress in Westenburg obtained second position in the country in the Caddy MK 1 category, which is the first edition of Mark 1 Volkswagen Golfs.

Southon explained that he loves Volkswagen Golfs and he bought the vehicle from a friend who used it in his security company.

“The car was a wreck. We decided to build it into a show car for Team Stress,” he said. The process of completing the car took approximately two months.

Custard stands out with its cream white/yellow colour and dark brown interior. He shared that the process of selecting the colour was a debate as some wanted the Caddy to be green but he chose to go for cream white.

“I explained that I had a vision for the car. Before it could go on stage I already had a picture of it in mind, hence I went for this colour. In the interior and engine bay, we decided on a chocolate brown which is the delight of the Ultra Mel Vanilla Custard,” he added.

Southon has received offers from people to buy the car but he is not interested since it is now a collector’s item to him.

The team is working hard on two projects which they plan to take to Camp Fest next year. “This was our first time at Camp Fest and having a car on stage was an awesome feeling and a privilege to see how people admire our hard work. We are definitely going back next year with three cars,” he said.
