Cable thieves strike again in Polokwane

Power supply to Eduan Park has been cut off as a result.

POLOKWANE – Residents in Eduan Park have yet again been affected by cable theft in the area.

Last Sunday (February 20) the power supply was cut off in the same area for more than seven hours. Two cable thieves were arrested after they were found in possession of the stolen cables, while still at the crime scene.

According to a statement by municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala, 10 cable thieves have been arrested in the city since the start of January. He, however, confirmed to Review that no arrests have been made yet following the latest outage.

“Power supply to the area shall be restored once the maintenance team has completed repairs, estimated to be at around 14:00. The municipality continues to work hand in glove with residents and law enforcement agencies, such as SAPS and the Community Policing Forum, in the fight against cable theft,” his statement reads.

Selala urged residents and business owners to report “suspicious activities” on service infrastructure. “Incidents of theft and vandalism should be reported to the municipal By-Law Enforcement office on 015 023 5484 or to the police on 08600 10111. Meanwhile, all affected users in Eduan Park are advised to treat all electrical wiring as live during repairs and to switch off all appliances to avoid injury and damage once power supply is restored,” he concluded.
