Kabelo is a fashionista of note

For Kabelo Mothapo, fashion design is the art and science of employing concepts of design and aesthetics to create clothing items and accessories.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane native says the industry gives him an adventurous spirit and allows him to tap into his creativity. “I have pursued professional courses in fashion design at a few colleges and they all equipped me with the required understanding of design creation. Studying fashion design has also helped me to choose a specific area of interest and develop my skills each day,” he says.

Kabelo says his work is mostly influenced by a myriad of factors such as culture, history and society. “My job can be rewarding and fulfilling. In today’s world, fashion has transformed into a global industry where fashion designers, manufacturers and retailers all work together to meet the customers’ demands,” he said.

He told Polokwane Observer that while fashion was just a concept initially, it has since become a way of life for so many people. “I was always determined to become a fashion designer as nothing else intrigued me more than the new and upcoming trends and the fact that change in this industry is constant,” he said.

Kabelo says he has always had a creative streak and his parents were supportive and encouraged him to pursue his dream in fashion design. “I was blessed to have such supportive parents because some parents don’t think this industry is the right path, but mine had faith in me. It’s remarkable how one gets the opportunity to blend their design expertise, artistic abilities, and fashion trends to produce something extraordinary.”

Kabelo hopes to see himself designing for big brands in Italy or Paris one day.
