SAPS recover stolen vehicles worth R4m in Limpopo

The vehicles were apparently hired from a rental agency in Gauteng and then sold to unsuspecting buyers in Limpopo.

LIMPOPO – A well-coordinated police operation has led to the recovery of ten vehicles which were recently reported stolen in Midrand, Gauteng, said police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo in a statement on Tuesday (February 22).

He added that the operation was conducted by members of the Vehicle Identification Service, Crime Intelligence Unit and a private tracking company and conducted in Malamulele and Saselamani policing precincts in the Vhembe District over the weekend.

“It is alleged two unknown men had hired the said vehicles from a company based in Midrand. These vehicles were then sold to unsuspecting victims in Limpopo,” the statement read.

Mojapelo said an intelligence-driven joint operation was conducted which resulted in the recovery and seizure of the said vehicles at various residences across the province.

“The hunt for those responsible still continues. Anyone with information that can assist in the investigation can contact the authorities on the 24-hour Crime Stop number on 086 001 0111, via the My SAPSApp or they can visit their nearest police station.

Meanwhile, an unconfirmed police report suggests that a total of 24 vehicles were recovered during the same operation.  According to the report the operation targeted panel beaters, chop shops, tow-truck operators, and workshops and the remaining vehicles were recovered in the Giyani, Louis Trichardt, Polokwane and Burgersfort areas.
