LIMPOPO – Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo has confirmed that a restaurant owner and his wife were found dead this morning (February 15).

“Residents in Legonong section under the Driekop policing area, heard gunshots at a pub and grill in the area. They alerted police who found the body of the owner and his wife, with gunshot wounds,” Mojapelo explained to Review.

“The police in Driekop outside Burgersfort have opened cases of murder and inquest after the incident at around 06:00 this morning. The deceased were identified as Thulani Ntimani (47) and his wife Masodi Ntimane (36),” Mojapelo added.

He said the motive of the incident is still unknown but that domestic violence cannot be ruled out.

Social Development Nkakareng Rakgoale has condemned the incident of gender-based violence. According to departmental spokesperson Witness Tiva, the MEC urged residents who have difficulties in their relationships, to seek assistance from their social workers.

“The Department of Social Development is concerned about the ongoing incidents of gender-based violence and femicide. It is almost every week that we get reports of this nature. We will ensure to dispatch social workers to the area to provide psychosocial support to those who needed,” Tiva told Review.

He said it is unclear at this moment whether the couple are leaving behind children, but that the department will assess the situation and provide the needed assistance.
