Associations pleased with progress at softball stadium

The president of Softball South Africa and the chairperson of Limpopo Softball Association embarked on a short visit to the construction site on January 28.

POLOKWANE – Mashilo Matsetela, the president of Softball South Africa, says he is happy with the progress at the construction site of the softball stadium in Polokwane.

Matsetela and Mokgadi Mswazi, chairperson of Limpopo Softball Association, embarked on a short visit to the construction site on January 28.

The stadium is situated between the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex and the municipal netball courts.

Construction commenced in the first quarter of 2021 and work is well underway at the grounds and the two practice fields.

Once completed, the stadium is expected to uplift the sporting code in the province and give young aspiring softball players an opportunity to play at a world-class facility.

“The facility will expose softball in the province to the international fronts. The games will be played on a proper surface as compared to dusty pitches in the rural areas in the province. We will be able to host international softball events and local softball championships.”

Mswazi said the stadium will raise the profile of softball in the province.

“It will be the first world-class softball facility in the province. We have many talented softball players who do well at their various clubs, and they will be happy to showcase their talent at the facility once completed.”
