Try bite of Marr-mite

Members of the local rock band, Marr-Mite Sandwich, say they love everything about music.

POLOKWANE – Members of the local rock band, Marr-Mite Sandwich, say they love everything about music.

Review met up with the band as they were getting ready for a gig at the Country Blue Blue Pepper Club on Friday evening.

The band is made up of three members, Neels Bezuidenhout, Arne Wiggill and Maanda Radzilani, who met in the church band and decided to form their own rock band.

Asked why they decided to form a band, they say their different styles of music mix well together to form a unique sound that is suitable for all cultures.

“Our first gig was in Seshego,” says Neels with a smile. “And we have only been together for about eight weeks.

“Music is all I know. I’ve been playing guitar for 14 years,” Neels adds.

For Maanda, music is a way to express yourself. “Music speaks to you,” he says. Maanda plays the drums and does vocals as well.

Arne says music touches you in a way nothing else can touch you. “Music has a way of going deeper,” he says.

Both Neels and Arne play the guitar, Arne plays base and Neels an acoustic guitar. They also do vocals, with Neels as the lead vocalist.

Marr-Mite Sandwich practises at least three times a week in Neels’ garage, where he also has a recording studio.

The studio is used mostly to record their own music, but Neels also gives singing lessons to children.

“We hope to release our debut album in three months time,” says Neels.

The band makes sure they have a gig at least twice a week and have a standing date at Adega Restaurant every last Friday of the month.
