Noma Mthombeni’s book adds her voice to nationwide activism campaign

Local activist and author Noma Mthombeni launched her new book titled Screams From My Marriage.

POLOKWANE – Her motivation behind her latest novel was to add her voice to the ongoing nationwide activism campaign to end violence against women and children across the world. The mother of two is also a part-time lecturer within the Independent Institute of Education (IIE) who also experienced divorce herself.

Activist and author of Screams From my Marriage, Noma Mthombeni.

“I wanted to dedicate my story to my daughters because sometimes when you go through a divorce it’s not easy to express yourself to the people around you, so I wrote instead. After I put the manuscript together, my team and I thought we needed something different and catchy for a title. The first title was Single Again, which was used so many times before and I am glad to have settled on Screams From My Marriage,” she said.

Noma’s story is raw and honest with a redemptive value as she shares her personal journey of falling in love and getting married as a teenager. She shares her joys of getting married, followed by being hurt, abused, shunned, ridiculed and shamed, which led to her divorce.

“In this book I share my journey through divorce as a Christian woman. I talk about my feelings, thoughts and other struggles I encountered as a result of a failed marriage. I also explain how I managed to overcome the battles and thrived to reach a place of healing and restoration,” she said.

Her prayer is that when people read this book, they move out of a place of anger and bitterness to a place of peace. “I want to show my readers that grief too can be overcome as traumatic as divorce is. The loss of a loved one through divorce carries a lot of pain for a lot of people like relatives and children too,” she said.

In her book Noma highlights that children should never be involved in the parents’ fights nor should they be used as weapons of manipulation by a parent. She is passionate about women’s issues, especially those that pertain to the healing and restoration from divorce and other painful experiences.

The book costs R270 including courier across South Africa. If you want to buy a copy, you can contact Noma on 072 678 2358 or via Facebook (Nomathamsanqa Mthombeni) or Instagram (NomaMthombeni).
