Limpopo learner (15) stabs friend’s mom to death

The 15-year-old was arrested and will be processed in accordance with the Child Justice Act, the police said.

LIMPOPO – The police in Levubu have arrested a 15-year-old learner for the murder of a 34-year-old woman.

Phathutshedzo Nemalumani was stabbed to death in her home at Tshakhuma Diambele village during a reported housebreaking incident, yesterday afternoon (January 24).

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said that preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased had arrived home at around 14:50. Her body was discovered by her 15-year-old son, who had returned from school.

“It is alleged the suspect was still in the house at the time and chased the son out of the premises. The son’s screams alerted the neighbours, who came to his rescue,” Mojapelo explained.

The suspect, who is said to be a friend of the deceased’s son, was arrested shortly after.

“The motive for the incident has also not yet been determined but housebreaking cannot be ruled out.”

The teenager will be processed in accordance with the Child Justice Act 75 of 2008, he concluded.

Police investigations still continue.
