A learner Tweeted these allegations.

It is believed that the incident happened at a school event Wednesday evening.

Review contacted the Department of Education’s spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene, who confirmed that the Waterberg district director has received a report from the school that indicates that a teacher has been suspended amid these allegations.

“The teacher is a School’s Governing Body appointment and the school will deal with the matter accordingly. We can confirm that the teacher has been suspended,” she explained.

SGB chairperson Wiets Botes confirmed the suspension to Review and added: “We had concerned parents at the school today and the situation is being addressed. A committee has been put together to deal with the matter and the correct disciplinary procedures will be followed.”

Asked about police presence seen at the school on the video, Chuene said that police are in most cases deployed where there is an uproar.

“The department strongly condemns the incident. There is no place for racism in our schooling environment and psychosocial support will be made available if needed,” she concluded.
