Limpopo TickTok queen puts her voice on the line

Cyria Tshipetana, who is more affectionately known as Cyria The Community, recently ventured into the music industry.

LIMPOPO – Cyria Tshipetana’s Tik Tok account gained over 150 000 followers and 1.9 million likes in just four months due to her relatable content on local community issues.

Cyria, who is more affectionately known as Cyria The Community, is from Mutsha outside Thohoyandou. She was named Cyria The Community after she created a video that was addressed to the community members after a funny ordeal she went through. The video was taken at a church where Cyria interpreted for a pastor from Tshivenda to English.

She says when she first started to trend, she was embarrassed that people made fun of her, but a close friend made her realise that there was a silver lining to every cloud. That’s when she adopted the ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’ saying and realised that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

“When people dubbed me Cyria The Community, I felt it was rightfully placed because I love my community. Wherever I go, I make sure to represent where I come from as best as I can. My content is also often community-based, or based on occurrences in the community of Limpopo at large.”

Cyria says she tries to make her content relevant and very often she does not even have to overthink it, as her ideas just come at any point and time.

“I am trying to spread a message of laughter and hope. A message that will see people rise from their current situations and embrace themselves as they are. I want people to realise that opportunities are everywhere and can present themselves just because of a video you recorded.”

Since she became Tik Tok famous, Cyria was approached by a number of producers who love her voice and she has since ventured into music. Her first single, titled Si hamba ngo line has attracted a lot of attention in Limpopo and she hopes that it will soon hit the national waves. Madeku deku, which is another song she recorded, has also dominated the local entertainment scene over the past month.

Cyria is motivated by Venda-born artist Makhadzi, who also started from the bottom and is now a national headliner in the industry.

“If I can see myself getting halfway where Makhadzi is, then I know I am on the right path. She is my inspiration and I hope in the same way I am an inspiration to someone out there.” You can find her on Tik Tok at Cyria Tshipetana.
