69 shooters on target at Limpopo-Storm

Limpopo Province Practical Shooting Association (LPPSA) hosted its last level 2 league competition of the year called Limpopo-Storm on the weekend and incorporated the Limpopo Closed Championship.

POLOKWANE – The event was hosted at the local Polokwane Shooting Centre, the largest shooting range of its kind in South Africa. This event was based on the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Baltic-Storm format where more than double the number of stages are presented compared to the usual IPSC competition format. Instead of the normal eight stages per day, 20 stages were shot per day.

This format requires a compact design of stages, which means many ranges will consist of two adjacent stages per range. The round-count of shots fired varies from nine to 26 shots, instead of nine to 32.

Only full-size IPSC paper targets were used and penalty targets, moving targets and steel targets were left out of the stage design. It all contributed to very quick engagement of the stages, which decreased time spent per stage drastically.

No fewer than 69 entrants participated. A very high safety standard was displayed by all participants as not one shooter was disqualified during the competition.

“We also received quite a few entries from other provinces, which contributed to a highly competitive standard in the competition,” said member Philip Smit.

Pieter Bouwer lets loose on the targets.
