Applications for the Globeleq Scholarship Fund close Oct 29. Apply NOW

The Globeleq Scholarship Fund (GSF) Scare Skills Progamme is giving students from the Blouberg area an opportunity to apply for tertiary bursary funding for this academic year.

LIMPOPO – Matriculants from the class of 2021, residing within Bochum, Limpopo, as well as students from this area that are already studying, have an opportunity once again to apply for tertiary bursary funding for this academic year.

The closing date for applications is 29 October 2021 and is available for degrees, certificates or TVET college courses in the study fields of education, agriculture or nursing.

As part of the Soutpan Solar Power’s economic development programme, the Globeleq Scholarship Fund (GSF) Scare Skills Progamme aims to develop skills that will most benefit and help develop the communities surrounding the solar plant, including the areas of Ga-Mochemi Village, Germark Village, Ga-Maphoto Village, Senwabarwana (Bochum), Indermark, Avon, Gamachaba, Mohodi, Vienna Village and Driekoppies.

“The GSF Scarce Skills programme is specifically offered to students wishing to pursue degrees or certificates in education, agriculture or nursing. It has been identified that Bochum and surrounding areas need these types of skills to support regional economic development,” explained Hlengiwe Radebe, Economic Development Director for Soutpan Solar Power and Globeleq South Africa.

“We are hoping that young people take up the opportunity to study further, which will ultimately impact the greater community, as tertiary education can effectively increase the local skills pool,” added Radebe.

Bursary beneficiaries receive tuition fees, travel and accommodation costs, book allowances and even a stipend.

Since 2016, the GSF recipients have been 100% black youth and over 55% female for the last three years. The programme utilises a less conventional and holistic approach to funding, by typically not only focusing on academic achievement, but rather on financial need, location of the students and gender.
