Gruesome discovery made at primary school in Thohoyandou

A security guard at the school made the discovery in the early hours of a school day.

LIMPOPO – Teaching had to suspended at the rural school of Tshifulanani Primary School last Tuesday after a security guard made the discovery of a body near one of the classrooms.

A plea for social workers or counsellors to address learners has been made since the incident which happened at the school, situated in Lwamondo-Mathule village outside Thohoyandou.

Learners and staff had to return home after the body of a young adult was found hanging close to one of the classrooms.

The principal, Gladys Sithubi said the security guard had discovered the body when he was about to clean out the dustbin at around 05:30.

The circumstances which led to the man’s death remained unclear.

“I was called to the school and when I arrived, I immediately alerted the police. After consulting with staff and members of the School Governing Body (SGB), we decided that learners have to return home to avoid further trauma,” said Sithubi.

SGB chairperson, Muofhe Lufhungu said the school hoped that social workers would assist in terms of emotional trauma that learners may have sustained.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed the incident saying the Vuwani police are investigating an inquest.

He said police were on their daily routine in the area, when they were informed about a body that was discovered at the school.

The man was identified as Rolindwa Nelwamondo (21) of Lwamondo-Tshikosi village.
