Modimolle farm attack: Limpopo police arrest suspect in Gauteng

According to the police the 39-year-old man was arrested at a Pretoria court soon after he appeared for a separate incident.

LIMPOPO – One of four men who were involved in a recent farm attack incident outside Modimolle was apprehended on Tuesday (September 28), according to the police.

The attack happened last Saturday on the Sussenvale farm outside Modimolle and the suspect was apprehended during a coordinated operation conducted by the Modimolle Detectives and Modimolle Crime Intelligence unit.

According to police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said yesterday the police received information that one of the wanted suspects in the farm attack, a 39-year-old foreign national, would appear in Pretoria Magistrate’s Court for a separate incident.

“The suspect was out on bail for copper cable theft in the Hercules policing area and arrived at the said court driving the same vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, which was reportedly used during the commission of the Modimolle incident.”

Mojapelo explained that the man was arrested soon after his court appearance and taken to one of his addresses in Hammanskraal where some of the properties that were allegedly robbed during the farm attack were recovered.

“On September 18 at around 22:43, four suspects all armed with firearms accosted the occupant of the said farm house. They then reportedly assaulted him and at one stage even threw him through a window whereby he sustained lacerations.”

During the incident the suspects also ransacked the house and stole several items including a rifle and then fled the scene in the victim’s VW Polo.

Laptops, mechanical equipment and tools were stolen during the incident, the police say.

The injured victim managed to walk to a neighbour’s house for help and was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Mojapleo added that the stolen vehicle was recovered in Hammanskraal a day after the incident. “The suspects were cornered by Saps members and during the chase, they abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot,” he explained.

The suspect will appear in the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (September 30) on a charge of house robbery.

Mojapelo said that a manhunt for the remaining suspects still continues and anyone with information about their whereabouts can contact the investigating officer, WO Ross Rossouw on 0721189088.

The provincial police commissioner, Lt Genl Thembi Hadebe, commended all the members involved for the meticulous investigations that led to the apprehension of the suspect.
