Two people dead in car crash near Polokwane

It is alleged the driver was speeding and lost control of the vehicle.

POLOKWANE – Two people are dead after a sedan overturned along the R71 road on Saturday morning.

According to the spokesperson for the Department of Transport and Community Safety, Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala, the incident happened near Onverwacht at 06:15 on September 25.

“It is alleged the driver was speeding and lost control of the vehicle. The driver and passenger died in the incident.”

According to sources the vehicle was involved in a hijacking incident. This has yet to be confirmed by the police.

Jason Janse van Rensburg of SPS High Risk Unit earlier this week told Review that vehicles are being hijacked and stolen from public and private locations ranging from hospitals, mall parking lots to residential areas.

“We have picked up that there aren’t really any specific hotspot areas in Polokwane. These hijackings are happening across the city.”

He urged residents to remain vigilant at all times.
