Do you have outstanding traffic fines?

The Polokwane Municipality has started issuing notices of speeding and traffic fines to motorists to get them to pay their fines before a warrant of arrest is issued in their names.

POLOKWANE – Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala says these messages remind offenders on outstanding fines or are a reminder of an upcoming court date, outstanding warrant of arrest or indirect summons as a result of speeding camera fines or parking fines.

Selala says one has to pay on or before the date stipulated on the summons and if there is no date on the SMS, one needs to go to the traffic centre to request a summons. “Any cancellation and reduction of fines is done only by the magistrate’s court,” he said.

You can visit www.viewfines.net to check for any outstanding fine or the local traffic and licensing centre.

Review spoke to a local lawyer, Gert Ehlers who explained the two types of traffic fines as well as motorists rights. Read his comment in this week’s Polokwane Review.
