Three in court for separate incidents of rape of minors

Four girls between the age of 15 and 16 were raped in two separate incidents.

LIMPOPO – Two men, who were arrested on September 18, are expected to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court today (September 20).

The men, aged 18 and 27, were arrested for the assault and rape of a 16-year-old Gr 10 learner at Roodhuis village.

According to a statement by police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo the men reportedly met with the victim and her friends on September 17.

“They allegedly grabbed her and pulled her to nearby bushes where they severely assaulted her and then took turns in raping her. The victim managed to find her way back home and informed her grandmother who in turn called the police,” Mojapelo explained.

He said the men were then traced and arrested.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a 41-year-old man from Tshikonelo village outside Thohoyandou appeared in the Tshaulu Periodical Court on three rape charges of three teenage girls between the age of 15 and 16 years.

National Prosecuting Authority Limpopo spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said the accused met three teenage girls on September 6 and threatened them with a knife before he raped them in a nearby bush.

“The man handed himself over at the Tshaulu Police Station on September 12. The matter was postponed to September 28 for a legal representative and the accused was remanded in custody,” Malabi-Dzhangi concluded.
