Tommies on top as 7’s rugby returns to the playing field

For the first time in nearly two years, 7's rugby players were finally back on the field to participate in a provincial 7's rugby tournament.

POLOKWANE – The tournament was hosted in Louis Trichardt on Saturday and Tom Naudé Technical High School’s players showed some excellent skills.

Their senior side faced Hoërskool Ben Viljoen and the Barbarians in the pool matches, and beat both. Their only loss in the tournament came in the cup semi-final against Curro Heuwelkruin.

The Tommies then had to battle it out against Ben Viljoen again in the plate final, which they won, and ended third overall for the day. A successful tournament for the school was sealed with a cup final win on the Tommies’ junior side.

They were unbeatable in their pool games against Northern Academy Secondary School and Ben Viljoen. The juniors beat Hoërskool Frans du Toit in their cup semi-final to book their spot in the final against Curro Heuwelkruin.

“Well done to all the boys who played their hearts out and showed some real Tommie-guts. We look forward to this weekend’s tournament in Phalaborwa,” says Tom Naudé sports coordinator Kobus de Meyer.
