[LISTEN] Speed kills, warns department after two incidents
A man (30) was arrested for clocking 181km/h on the N1, while two people were killed in an incident on the R25.
LIMPOPO – Transport and community safety spokesperson Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala urged provincial law enforcement officials to deal decisively with those who do not abide by the laws of the road.
Moremi-Taueatsoala made this remark as he thanked two officers for their arrest of a 30-year-old man for reckless and negligent driving.

“The man was arrested on Thursday (September 2) after he was caught driving a hatchback at an average speed of 181km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N1. He was taken to the Mookgophong Police Station where he was formally charged with reckless driving,” he explained.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident of possible speeding, two men were killed in a head-on collision on the R25.
“Two bakkies collided on the on the R25 near Rooibloem Farm in the Sekhukhune district. The officer alleged that the driver of one of the bakkies lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle,” Moremi-Taueatsoala said.
He added that both drivers, believed to be in their late 40s, were killed.
“A passenger in one of the vehicles sustained minor injuries and was taken to Philadelphia Hospital. The incident happened on Thursday night and speeding has been cited as a possible cause,” he explained.
Moremi-Taueatsoala told Review that negligent driving and speeding has contributed to many accidents in the province, especially in the Sekhukhune district.
