Polokwane: Suspect in custody for murder of Jakkie Grobler

The 32-year-old suspect was appearing in a separate case of housebreaking in Krugersdorp when he was arrested.

POLOKWANE – Almost a year after the brutal murder of resident Jakkie Grobler (80) at the Koraal Aftree Oord in Polokwane, police managed to apprehend a 32-year-old suspect who is expected to appear in the local magistrate’s court during the week.

The arrest was made in Krugersdorp.

Grobler was alone at her home in the retirement village on September 21, 2020 when an intruder gained access to the premises and attacked and killed her.

He took her cellphone and cash before fleeing the scene. Provincial police commissioner Lt Genl Thembi Hadebe commended the meticulously coordinated investigations that were conducted by a team of dedicated detectives.

Soon after the killing, a team of investigators led by a senior officer was put together to probe the matter. The team’s investigative work was characterised by constant apprehension and profiling of suspects and liaising with counterparts in other provinces.

The suspect was appearing in a separate case of housebreaking in Krugersdorp when he was arrested.

“The arrest of the suspect will possibly bring some relief to the most vulnerable members of our society staying at Koraal, as they were understandably living in constant fear since the brutal murder of their fellow resident,” said Hadebe.

The suspect originates from the Eastern Cape.
