JUST IN: Patel off the hook in mom’s murder case

My client is now a free man, Rameez Patel's lawyer Advocate Meshack Thipe told Review.

POLOKWANE – The charges against Rameez Patel in his mother, Mahajeen Patel’s murder case, have been withdrawn.

This was confirmed by Patel’s lawyer, Advocate Meshack Thipe who appeared in the Limpopo High Court on Monday (August 16).  “My client is now a free man and he is elated,” Thipe told Review.

Mahajeen Patel (51) was murdered in her Nirvana home on September 19, 2017.

According to earlier reports Mahajeen and her domestic worker were at home around 19:00 when she was shot and wounded. She was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries a few hours later. Patel was arrested nine months after the murder and charged with the murder of his mother.

Patel was granted bail in August 2020 after three failed bail applications. He was re-arrested in June after the Provincial Office of the Public Prosecutor tabled a review application against the granting of the bail.
