Prepare for two water shutdowns: When, where

According to the Polokwane Municipality, the first shutdown will take place on Thursday (August 12) while a 48-hour shutdown is scheduled for month-end.

POLOKWANE – Residents are hereby notified about two planned water shutdowns that will affect the water supply to the city and surrounding areas.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Polokwane Municipality outlined the planned shutdowns:

Tomorrow (Thursday, August 12) water supply from the Ebenezer Scheme, run by Lepelle Northern Water (LNW), will be stopped to allow technicians to conduct emergency repairs. The shutdown is planned from 07:00 and LNW has estimated seven hours until completion of repairs, says municipal spokesperson, Thipa Selala.

Areas to be affected include Segwashi, Boyne, Badimong, Mentz, Sebayeng, Ga-Dikgale, Ga-Mothapo, Segopye, Makotopong, Mankweng to Dalmada, Polokwane and Seshego.

“If everything goes as estimated by LNW, water supply will be restored by 14:00.” He added that residents must take note that after the water supply is restored it can still take some time before water reaches all affected areas of supply.

The municipality will monitor water shortages and provide temporary relief through water tankers.

He added that in addition, LNW has notified the municipality of another stoppage to allow for a connection of a newly constructed Specon pipeline. The stoppage is planned for Tuesday (August 31) from 07:00.

“The estimated duration is 48 hours.”

Areas to be affected include Ga-Chuene, Ga-Maja, Thokgwaneng to Polokwane and Seshego.

Polokwane Municipality will monitor water shortages and provide temporary relief through water tankers to all affected areas. Residents are advised to report all water challenges to municipal Water and Sanitation helpline on 015 023 5376 / 015 023 5629 or to the municipal switchboard on 015 023 5000.
