Physical education brings her joy

Newly appointed director of physical education at Mitchell House, Mituxa Lopes says her ultimate goal at the school is to create love for physical activity among learners.

POLOKWANE – Lopes added that she would like to also instil passion, pride and consistency in all their sport activities.

The 32-year-old, who holds a degree in physical education from the Tshwane University of Technology, takes over from Fred Romijn who vacated the position last year.

She stressed that it is important for learners to show passion in all their academic and sporting activities, and also possess admirable qualities as this can set them up for success in the real world after school.

“I will teach learners to win and lose with humility and grace, and to do both with dignity.

“Each individual will be given an equal opportunity to shine and be the best version of themselves.

“I will include diversity and celebrate each individual’s differences and ensure that physical education flourishes through the grades to create a love for physical activity from a young age.”

The provincial hockey player boasts a level 2 hockey coaching qualification from South African Schools Hockey Association.

She described her move to Mitchell House as a lifelong dream.

“Sport has been a constant presence in my life and to be part of the Mitchell House family has been my lifelong dream.

I can only be proud of the perseverance and courage endured to get to this point.”
