Leading the kicking pack

Yin-Yang Karate and Self-Defence Studio celebrated International Budo Day with a friendly competition.

This was a recent virtual competition and karatekas had to submit videos of creative ways to warm up and do kata to the rhythm of their choice of music.

Yin-Yang Karate and Self-Defence owner, sensei Annatjie de Jager explained that International Budo Day is a day for all martial artists to train live at home with martial arts experts from around the world.

“The spirit of our martial artists knows no boundaries so we hosted the virtual competition. All the karatekas did well and out of 15 entries, there could only be one winner,” she said.

The winner was Zelandia Janse van Rensburg, a new karateka and senior who only started her karate career this month. Sensei Annatjie expressed pride in the progress of her new karateka and congratulated Zelandia on a job well done.

Their next grading will take place on 29 May and the next competition will be on 3 July.

The Tokon Shotokan All Styles Karate Federation National Championships (TSKKIA) will take place in Brits from 8 to 10 October. “Our karatekas are working and training hard for this competition; watch this space,” she added.
