9 pressure pumps stolen in 3 weeks

According to the Bendor & Ster Park Security Forum (BSSF), yet another pressure pump was stolen in the early hours of Monday morning

This brings the total number of thefts in the past three weeks to nine.

BSSF Chairperson Johan Retters says they have noted that all the water pressure pumps were stolen from houses where there is no electrical fence and that the thieves usually come around in the morning between 02:00 and 04:30.

“We have one incident that took place at around 22:30 but we were able to react swiftly and the suspects got away. They target houses with no electric fence because it provides easy access into the yard. It is still curfew so these people know that they is no traffic in the streets and are able to steal easily. The street lights are still an issue and they prevent us from being able to do our work properly.”

The estimated damage is about R5 000 per household due to the pipes that are also cut out and damaged.

He says the issue is currently prevalent in the Bendor, Ster Park and Flora Park and has warned residents to keep an eye out.

Retters has advised that residents try to install an iron frame on top of their pressure pumps to prevent the thieves for easy access.
