Ruan dreams of dancing abroad

Ruan Otto (20) has been dancing for some time now and says that this is just the beginning for him as he has bigger dreams.

Besides dancing Ruan has been invited to local shopping centres where he acts as a mime to entertain shoppers.

“The most difficult thing about miming is learning not to smile and react to people,” Ruan says. He adds that teaching himself to do robotic dancing helped him accomplished miming. As part of the La Vida Dance Studio he loves pop, classic Latin and hip-hop dancing.

He also loves performing street dancing, and brags with the fact that he is able to perform 11 different dance styles. He says that when it comes to dancing you have to be fit and people sometimes underestimate this important aspect.

“To keep up, I need to do a lot of fitness training like skipping to make sure I stay in shape,” he adds.

He is 20 years old and works in the IT industry, but is also aiming at becoming a dance instructor soon.

At the Bosveld Arts Festival last year he received silver and platinum awards and at the South African Championships he finished among the top four dancers in various categories.

His dreams for the future is travelling abroad.

He emphasised to up-and-coming dancers to follow their passion as dancing makes you feel free.
