Muni: City’s reservoirs still under strain

This, after majority of the city was left without water over the weekend due to power outages at the Ebenezer plant.

Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) is experiencing yet another pipe leak on its Ebenezer line.

Thipa Selala, Spokesperson for the POlokwane Municpality issued the following release: “LNW says it has just stopped the Ebenezer Plant again due to the leak which means there is no pumping of water to Polokwane Municipality. This stoppage will have negative impact on the-already-strained reservoir levels and water supply to various areas within the municipality.”

The LNW team is working on repairing the leak and restoring water supply to all municipal areas.

Water tankers will  continue to provide temporary relief to the affected areas, he concluded.

Onging water supply disruptions has left most areas in the city with low water pressure or no water supply.

This morning Thipa Selala, Municipal Spokesperson says reservoir levels in the city have not shown any improvement as a result of challenges experienced by Lepelle Northern Water’s Ebenezer water scheme. “The Ebenezer plant has experienced continuous power outages as a result of storms and winds over the weekend. The plant was stopped again yesterday to allow for repairs on a pipeline supplying to Polokwane, in Mentz village outside Mankweng,” he explained.

He added that the repairs on the pipeline were only concluded in the early hours of this morning. “The team from LNW initially estimated repairs to take five hours, however, an update received this morning stated that the repairs were completed at 02:31 this morning.”

As of Thursday, 28 January reservoir levels stand at:

Potgieter – 0% Krugersburg

50Ml – 0% Krugersburg
