[WATCH] Taps run dry as city experiences yet another water supply disruption

Water supply to most parts of the city has been affected, says the Polokwane Municipality.

The Polokwane Municipality’s Spokesperson, Thipa Selala, says water supply to the city is currently affected by a pipe burst in Mentz in the Mankweng area.

After numerous queries from readers in the Bendor and Sterpark areas, and no communication from the municipality, Review contacted Selala to gather information as to why these areas have been without water supply for multiple days.

Asked when the pipe burst occurred, Selala said: “The info just came in now. Areas from Segwashi, Mentz, Mankweng, City and Seshego will be impacted.”

In a statement, Selala notified residents and businesses of a water supply stoppage from the Ebenezer Plant as a result of the pipe burst.

“This comes at a time when several other areas within the municipal area are still experiencing water supply challenges due to power outages from the same supply line. The water utility says it will take five hours to complete repairs,” he said.

He reminded residents that water supply takes long to be restored following pipe bursts or repairs. “Once the pipe is repaired and supply is restored, it might still take long for water to reach all affected areas because the line could empty due to the stoppage,” he explained.
