Police are investigating cases of murder after two people who were reportedly accused by community members of dealing in drugs were allegedly attacked and killed by a mob in the Gilead area last week.
According to Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe the incident occurred late last week in the Rebone RDP section when Sydney Marakalala (51) of Mokopane was reportedly assaulted by community members who accused him of dealing in drugs. His Volkswagen Polo was also torched during the attack.
Police and emergency medical services were contacted but Marakalala was certified dead on the scene, according to Ngoepe.
In an earlier incident last Wednesday community members at Uitzicht allegedly attacked a 31-year-old man after reportedly accusing him of the same crime.
Police were called and on arrival found Kgabo Morris Thlako seriously injured. The mob had already dispersed. Thlako was taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Ngoepe said Police are calling upon members of the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
No arrests were made yet and anyone with information can contact investigating officer Richard Boshomane on 079 894 5501 or report to the nearest Police station.
