Cops arrest almost 400 suspects during operations

Suspects wanted on a variety of charges met law enforcers when Police conducted simultaneous intelligence-driven operations across the province leading to the arrest of 376 suspects on the weekend.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that besides the arrests, a large quantity of suspected stolen property as well as firearms and ammunition were also confiscated during the operations.
The operations comprised of various crime prevention units, K9 Unit, Tactical Response Team (TRT), crime intelligence units and detectives and were conducted through stop and searches, road blocks, tracing of wanted suspects and patrols.

Ngoepe said the suspects were arrested for different criminal activities such as burglary, theft, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of firearms and ammunition without a licence, public drinking, contravention of the Liquor Act, contravention of the Immigration Act and assault.
During the arrests Police recovered two firearms with ten rounds of live ammunition, a rifle with nine rounds of live ammunition, three suspected stolen vehicles, a pellet gun, a duvet, towels, pillows, two plasma televisions, four speakers, a DVD player and 151,75 kg of dagga and liquor.
Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba hailed the efforts made by the operational members for their commitment in dealing head-on with all categories of crimes without compromise.
