UL suspends trips to China for fear of virus

The University of Limpopo (UL) has discouraged staff and students from travelling to China due to the recent fatal coronavirus outbreak.
The university annually sends students to China for research activities, practical experience and further learning.
Nonceba Mbambo-Kekana, Director of International Affairs at UL said talks between universities, the International Education Association of South Africa and the Chinese Embassy through the Department of Higher Education and Training as well as higher institutions of education in South Africa resolved that universities suspend any travels to China until the outbreak was curbed. “The Chinese Embassy has also advised South African universities to impose 14-day quarantines on academics and students arriving from China to monitor their health.”
She added that no student or staff of the university was currently in China on university business.
According to reports on Tuesday the virus had claimed 1,018 lives and shot up to 43,104 infections in China and some other parts of the world.
