Polokwane is expected to be a abuzz with activity when the 2020 South African’s Defence Force (SANDF) Armed Forces Day is hosted in the city from 17 until 21 February.
The event which seeks to expand public understanding of the role of the SANDF will form part of the 25th anniversary of South Africa’s democratic force.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Peter Mokaba Stadium yesterday (Wednesday) Maj Gen Jacobus de Goede of the South African Army said the purpose of Armed Forces Day is to honour men and women in the hub of the arms profession, SANDF members who lost their valuable lives in the line of duty both internally and externally as well as the current serving members.
The weeklong programme will feature career exhibitions where young persons will have the opportunity to explore various careers in the SANDF. The various services delivered by the SANDF will also be exhibited. The festivities will culminate with a parade scheduled for 21 February through some of the main streets of the city.
