Despite their 0-0 draw against Highlands Park Football Club in the first semi-final match of the MTN 8 Cup tournament at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, Polokwane City Football Club is still confident of their chances to win their first ever MTN8 title.
City has been in-form from last season and will need a victory against Highlands Park when the two meet at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa on 17 September in the second semi-finals of the R8 million tourney.
On their way to the semi-finals City claimed the scalps of the defending champions of the tournament Cape Town City Football Club in the back yard a fortnight ago.
Club’s chief operations officer Tincy Tema said they have what it takes to go to the finals and win the tittle. “This is a milestone for the club.
We have never reached the semi-finals of the competition before. This is an opportunity for us and we have prepared well for the encounter. We are left with two matches to the tittle and we believe that the players and the technical team will do the job,” he said.
Tema also said that they have hired three buses which will commute their supporters to Tembisa on 17 September.
“This is an important match for us and we need our supporters there. We want to share this journey with them. The buses will collect of our supporters at Lepelle Nkumpi then move to Mogalakwena. We are still encouraging others to come in numbers and rally behind the team,” Tema stated.
