Nicolas Fouché (24) and Bruce Smith (52) were expected to appear in the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court again yesterday (Wednesday) after they were arrested on separate occasions for allegedly trying to smuggle R1,75 million across the Botswana border.
Limpopo Hawks Spokesperson Matimba Maluleke confirmed that both suspects have already appeared in court and were expected to apply for bail yesterday.
Fouché was apprehended at the Stockpoort border post to Botswana last Wednesday carrying cash valued at R1,75 million which he allegedly failed to declare at customs.

Police officers search the bag in which R1,75 million was found in a vehicle at the Stockpoort border post to Botswana.

Police members were conducting their daily routine duties when the suspect arrived, intending to cross the border into Botswana.
When searching his rented vehicle they discovered a bag full of bank notes in the boot and immediately arrested him.
Smith was identified as a second suspect by the Hawks after he paid Fouché a visit at the holding cells. He was arrested and appeared in the same court on Monday on charges of conspiracy to smuggle the money across the border.
Fouché is facing a charge of contravention of the Exchange Control Regulations, Customs and Excise Act.
