An amount of R1 million was spent by Polokwane Municipality during the 2018/19 financial year to upgrade the ablution facilities at the city’s tennis courts and after upgrading of the lighting during this financial year, the facilities will comply with international standards.
This was the good news delivered by Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng when she welcomed players and supporters at the annual Mayoral Tennis Tournament at the city’s tennis courts on Saturday. Nkadimeng added that if funds could be sourced, another R1,7 million may be allocated for the provision of netball courts at the open area behind the tennis courts in the next financial year.
The event saw 90 players from the province as well as Gauteng and Mpumalanga taking part and Nkadimeng emphasised the importance of a healthy lifestyle and participation in sport activities.
“We need to make a meaningful contribution in the lives of our children in a positive way,” Nkadimeng said.
John Mokoena, a local clergyman, opened the event with script reading and prayer and called on everyone to return to God. “Without God we can do nothing. We must be connected to Him,” was Mokoena’s message.
The results were not available at time of going to press.
