Polokwane Municipality’s 2019/2020 draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget consultations for the Moletjie cluster began at Kgohlwane in Ward 16 last Thursday.
Communications and Marketing Manager of the municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo in a media release said they were currently consulting with residents and stakeholders in all clusters to source input to the plan and budget.
Mothapo referred to Mayoral Committee for Finance and LED member and acting Executive Mayor Rasepuetja Molepo addressing residents and saying the public participation process is meant to accelerate service delivery and ensure that communities enjoy direct input into what makes up the reviewed IDP for 2019/2020. “We cannot stay and make decisions in chamber without consulting the communities that have sent us to represent their aspirations in local government,” Molepo was quoted to have said.
Molepo said that the municipality was pushing very hard to open doors at provincial and national government level to source for funding geared towards improving the service delivery expectations of the entire Polokwane area. “A water master plan to solve water issues has been developed and already some of the villages have started to see positive changes in regards to sustainable water supply,” he said. Another priority is improving the conditions of roads. Molepo said the municipality was coming up with a plan to ensure better road access in order to stimulate local economic development. He added said the municipality continued to work together with Eskom to close the electrification backlog.
