Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that the four suspects, aged between 22 and 37 years, are facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and hijacking after an incident in Thohoyandou.
It is reported that a 34-year-old man was opening the gate to his property when a group of armed suspects accosted him and forced him and his daughter into his vehicle and drove off.
Ngoepe said the Police were notified and swiftly responded by launching a manhunt. The vehicle was traced at Maake outside Tzaneen where the father and child were safely recovered and four suspects arrested. Police confiscated two vehicles, firearms and bank cards.
In a separate incident in Groblersdal four suspects were arrested on charges relating to the possession of dagga. Ngoepe indicated that the suspects, aged between 24 and 55, were found to have been in possession of dagga valued at an estimated R500 000. Police followed up on information about two vehicles transporting dagga and the vehicles were quickly traced and the four arrests secured, according to Ngoepe.
During another successful operation in the same area Police arrested four suspects in connection with business robbery and possession of suspected stolen properties.
A vehicle, a hammer, two grinders, a pick, crowbar, torch, Sassa cards and several other bank cards were among the confiscated items.
All suspects are expected to appear in respective courts soon.
