A tenth suspect been arrested in connection with the murder case of Thorisho Themane (28) on the weekend, is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court this morning (Monday).
The 13-year-old suspect, reportedly a learner at a local agricultural school, was when brought to the Polokwane Police Station by his parents, according to Provincial Police Communications Head, Motlafela Mojapelo.
Three adults arrested in connection with the case are also expected to appear in court today (Monday) while six minor suspects apprehended earlier are due back in court on Thursday.
Majopelo explained that although ten suspects have been arrested only nine remain in custody as one was released.
Themane was murdered on 23 February and Police made their first arrest two days later when five teenagers were taken into custody. This was followed by the arrest of a sixth suspect, also a teenager the following day. One of the teenagers has since been released as she could not be linked to the incident. Three adults, all aged 36, were apprehended three days after the killing followed by the latest arrest on the weekend, Mojapelo explained.
Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba has since dispelled the information circulating on social media alleging that the son of the retired Police officer who boasted on social media about this brutal incident, has been released from custody. “I want to put it categorically clear that all the arrested suspects will duly be processed through the ongoing court processes and that no one will receive any preferential treatment,” Ledwaba was quoted to have said.
