Victory in the annual Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) 4-in-1 Marathon went to Mbongeni Ngaxzoro and Eunice Ntuapho on Saturday when they were the first male and female runners to cross the finish line in the marathon (42,2 km).
Ngaxzoro’s winning time was 02:23.58 while Ntuapho clocked in at just over three hours.
Milton Kekana’s time of 1:05.54 ensured him the first place in the men’s category of the 21,1 km. while Rudo Mhonderwa won the ladies category in a time of 01:16.13.
Coming in at just over 30 minutes, Phuti Sethowa made sure of a win in the male category of the 10 km while Rasmokgadi Mokgorwatie’s time of 43:09 earned her the gold medal in the female category.
Well over 2 600 entries were received for the event which is also a Comrades Marathon and Two Oceans Marathon qualifier. This made for tough competition between top runners who competed for a podium position but also chased the qualifying time.
According to Polokwane Athletic Club’s liaison officer, Caryn Rathmann it was the biggest turnout for the race since its inception and the club is happy with the huge number of entries.
