Non-profit organisation, Club 21 Learning Centre for Children with Down syndrome recently held a fundraising golf day at Kameeldoring Golf Club in Mokopane aimed at raising funds to the benefit of an intellectually impaired learner, Erwald Schoeman.
Erwald is expected to undergo surgery in April and the proceeds of the golf day will assist in purchasing resources and pay his medical bills.
The centre has branches in Polokwane and Mokopane. A parent at Club 21 Polokwane, Tlakale Nkadimeng informed that the event was an initiative to assist the two learning centres which do not have many resources and also help Erwald. She said the centre specialises in education and the development of children with Down syndrome. People with Down syndrome have an extra 21 chromosome (Trisomy 21), therefore ‘Club 21’, Nkadimeng clarified.
“At Club 21 we believe that every learner with Down syndrome can be like a tree firmly planted by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season, whose leaves shall not fade and everything he does shall prosper,” Nkadimeng explained.
