Residents of the city took a second look when members of the Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100 and Anns alighted from a colourful branded fun bus at various venues to indulge in interesting dishes and treats as part of the club’s progressive dinner which started at 14:00 on Saturday and only ended well after 22:00 for some of the fun seekers.
Some members of the tour group were dressed to the theme of the occasion, being ‘Priests and Prostitutes’ and some of the Rotarians were barely recognisable.
The Rotarians convened at Plumtree Lodge, where welcoming drinks were served by hosts Klaus and Brigitte Rabiega and from there, proceeded to the residence of Clive and Sonica Baragwanath, where taco wraps was the starter. After making a round of the residential area on the eastern side of the city, the bus stopped at Bok and Judith van Kraayenburg, where traditional ‘melktertjies’, concocted by Bok himself, ensured that the ambience and appetites were charged for the main course of bunny chows with two different curries that was served at the home of Fred and Ani Hurter. The second last stop was at the house of John and Sylvia Dunlevey where an adequate supply of fruit punch with a very potent lacing contributed to the high spirits of the bus passengers. The final stop was at John and Sue Kirkpatrick, where the Rotarians were not disappointed. Sue’s special chocolate dessert and ice cream with bubbly to cleanse the taste buds, rounded-off the dinner on a high note.
Some of the Rotarians still had some energy left for a night cap at the starting point and were convinced by Klaus that the 59 herbs in Jägermeister is just the right medicine to ensure a good night’s rest. “I take one every night and the good health that I enjoy at 77, is testimony of its medicinal value,” he said.
